Welcome to Covenant Home School Group!

Covenant Home School Group is a ministry of Covenant Church located in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Although many of our families are members of Covenant Church, our support group is open to all home school families.

We are a faith based Christian home school group who believe that all children are a gift from God and that we should seek His guidance in raising and educating them.

Starting in 2000, our group has grown to approximately 30 families with over 35 children ranging in age from newborn to high school. Since we are a small group, we like to join with the other home school groups in Jefferson County for field trips and special events. Some of our previous trips have included a dairy farm, a horse farm, the National Aquarium in Baltimore, The Department of Treasury, The Department of Engraving, The Washington Monument, caroling and gift-giving at the Canterbury Nursing Home, the Planetarium, pottery painting, plays at various local theatres, The Discovery Science Museum, the Pumpkin Patch, and The Polka-Dot Factory. Our field trips are open to members of any of the home-school groups in Jefferson County, not just the Covenant group.

We also hold a "Cross Curriculum Fair" in the spring. This is a combination science fair, social studies fair, art display and performing arts exhibition for the children in our group. It gives them an opportunity to share some of the things that they have learned during the school year.

We have in the past joined with JCCH in a Fall Co-op with the option of a Spring Co-op as well. For 2009-10 we will be participating in a 30-week Co-op. JCCH also puts together a home school yearbook each year for the children.

Although testing is not required in West Virginia, we do offer and participate in testing each year. Currently, we are using the Iowa test available through BJ Press and supported by Christian Educators of West Virginia (CHEWV).

We meet at 7:00 p.m. on the 3rd Sunday of each month from September through May at Covenant Church in Shepherdstown.
